II'm Karen. Writer, greyhound obsessive, qualified Dog Listener and apparently a woman who thinks wearing an enormous orange felt hat with a leaf on top is perfectly normal behaviour.
I've shared my life with greyhounds for nearly twenty years. During that time, I've learnt that they're wonderful, weird, occasionally infuriating creatures who can occupy an entire three-seater sofa while weighing considerably less than the average adult human.
I've also discovered that some of the things we find hilarious or endearing about our hounds can have rather more going on beneath the surface. It took me a while to figure that out, and I'm still learning.
When I'm not being supervised by Peter, my current retired racer, I write fiction. I'm currently resurrecting a cosy mystery involving a narrowboat, an eccentric neighbour with a chicken and a dog show judge who really should have been nicer to people.
So, what's this website about?
Greyhounds, mostly. Their adventures, their peculiar habits, the things they've taught me and the things I wish I'd known years ago.
There'll also be stories, fictional murders, occasional behavioural insights and probably a fair amount of nonsense.
Pull up a chair, grab a cuppa and make yourself comfortable.
Just check for greyhounds before you sit down. They tend to get there first. 🧡🐾
